You may never have any better opportunity to find out what people really think about you than at a casting audition. If you think you are the greatest actor in the history of the world, get yourself to a casting audition and see what happens! It is the true test. If you are horrible, not only will you not get the part, but many times they will let you know exactly how horrible you were, in no uncertain terms.
A casting audition can sometimes provide you with an opportunity to get some feedback on your performance skills. Just indicate to the people who are running it that you would appreciate some feedback whether it is negative or positive. Although many will decline to do so, some people will oblige you, and this constructive criticism may make all the difference for you at the next casting audition you go on.
If you ever get nervous at a casting audition, just remember that as with any art form or craft, it is always an ongoing learning process, so even if you don't end up being cast in the starring role, or any role for that matter, be sure to remember that you are there to learn, just as much as you are there to try to be the very best actor they see at that day's casting audition.
